Celebrate Headwear Day in royal fashion
2023-05-24
admin
Did you know that May 24 is Headwear Day? Numismatic collectors have a lot to celebrate on Tiara Day – or rather, there's a lot to celebrate, thanks to the billions of coins depicting headdresses. When it comes to people who wear good headdresses, the first thing that comes to mind is no one else, but the late Queen Elizabeth II - the monarch of Great Britain, who ruled her land and many Commonwealth countries from 1952 to 2022.

I've been working as a professional numismatic grader for over 20 years and I'm still amazed at what's on my desk. Recently, when grading coins in PCGS shipments from Hong Kong, two such surprises emerged in one shipment. Filed from an alternative service in China were two counterfeit Kennedy half-dollars.

American Memorial Half-Dollar, Part IV: The End of the Road
2023-05-17
There are many coin dealers who jump on the ranks of souvenirs, so to speak. Why don't they? There are dozens of cool new questions, most with exciting stories. Despite these interesting coins and wonderful stories, by the end of the 30s of the 20th century, the light of the commemorative coin project began to fade.
American Memorial Half Dollar, Part III: Promotions
2023-05-16
The secret to the success of product promotions is the availability of goods. When the 1921 Pilgrim half-dollar coin was issued, although many of the 1920 coins remained unsold, it was clear that the catalyst for producing a particular commemorative coin might have been somewhat flexible. The 1920 Puritan Half Dollar was issued to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the Puritan landings in 1620. Therefore, the continuation of the Puritan half-dollar coin issued in 1921 is not intended to commemorate the 300th anniversary of an event that happened in 1620.
